Corobo with the crown.

The Magic Crown is a crown that grants the wearer the power of ultimate persuasion. It acts as the justification behind the recruit and command gameplay mechanics.

Corobo found this crown while chasing some rats into the woods. The Magic Crown resides inside a rock within the nearby forest, which mysteriously explodes to reveal the Crown inside when he approaches. For a brief moment, it is possible to see a hammer break the rock, but the user of said hammer is never revealed. Howser, Verde and Liam discover Corobo wearing the Crown, and Howser declares Corobo to be the rightful heir to Alpoko, a failing Kingdom. It is not clear whether the Crown can only be used by Corobo, nor whether his discovery of it is down to chance.

The rock that contained the crown can be found in-game, deep in Corobo's Forest, still broken into pieces. It is bordered off with a fence, and appears to be on display as a landmark of sorts. One of the neighboring bushes contains an Art piece.

Abilities

The Magic Crown's ability to control minds is limited to people that are willing or believing in their ability to enact the tasks they are given. While Corobo can control citizens with a negative or hateful opinion of him, he cannot recruit everyone. For example, Howser refuses recruitment due to his old age, and Apricot refuses recruitment due to a lack of faith in her abilities.

This ability forms the basis of Little King's Story's core gameplay mechanic, enabling the player to amass an army and command individual citizens to accomplish tasks such as treasure hunting or combat. Some actions performed by citizens are not signified by any sceptre gestures by Corobo, such as retreating or disbanding, suggesting the Crown's power causes them to perform these actions without direct instruction from Corobo.

Trivia

  • The Magic Crown is featured on the game's logo, hanging off the "K" in "Little King's Story."
  • Every king in the game wears a crown, and some even have citizens or creatures that appear to be directly under the wearer's control, and suspiciously leave their king's side after they are defeated. This could suggest the existence of more than one Magic Crown.
  • Howser was once able to be recruited in a beta version of the game.
