— Mountie

Beard General (ひげ将軍, Hi-ge shōgun) is a high rank of King Long Sauvage's trained army of Sauvage Soldiers. A single Beard General appears in the Tiptoe Kingdom, commanding a small squadron of Mounties, the rank below a Beard General. The Beard General has worked to earn this rank and gains certain additional benefits from holding the position. While it is suggested that there are other Beard Generals, this one is the only one seen in the story.

Appearances

The sole Beard General shares most features with the standard Mounties, with a generally identical uniform and volcanic hat. However, he wears a blue coat in contrast with the red coats of the other regular Mounties, has a different voice, and sports more facial hair. He stands atop a particularly tall gym horse at the foot of Mount Sobamanjaro in the Sobamanjaro Hiker Registration region where teaches King Corobo the Five Tenets of the Tall Mountain.

  1. Tall is good, good is tall (Stretch out your back!)
  2. You'll get it if you stretch, you'll stretch to get it (Grow out your beard!)
  3. Have what you want, want what you have (Stretch your hands!)
  4. Rest sometimes, sometimes rest (Stretch your wings!)
  5. Sexy is good, good is sexy (Time to get spoony!)

After each Tenet, he will order the surrounding Mounties to take new positions.

Etymology

The Beard General's name is mentioned by a Mountie in the Tiptoe Kingdom, but it is not made clear who this refers to. However, a piece of artwork depicting a regular red-coated Mountie and the unique blue-coated Mountie can be found in the King Story Official Guidebook. This artwork is labeled お山の一等兵とひげ将軍, which roughly translates as "First Class Mountain Soldier & General Beard". The former name refers to the Japanese name for the regular Mountie, which means that "General Beard" must be referring to the name of the blue-coated Mountie. His rank of shōgun (General) compared to ichi tōhei (First-Class Soldier) suggests that he is a higher-ranking member of the Sauvage Soldiers.

Trivia

  • Despite the rank of Beard General coming from height, there are regular Mounties positioned higher up on the mountain who do not have the rank of Beard General. This could be because the Beard General seen at the Registration Desk area is only in charge of that particular squadron of Mounties, so he is the tallest relative to them. Alternatively, this could also be because the Mounties at the Registration Desk are only given permission to access Mount Sobamanjaro to protect it once Corobo begins to climb the mountain to defeat Long Sauvage.
