The Tiptoe Kingdom (背のびの国, Senobi no kuni) is a mountainous country ruled by King Long Sauvage. It is located in the north of The World, northeast of the Skull Plains, upon a large peninsula. The kingdom has a height-based hierarchy, where being taller makes one a greater person and grants them more power. The citizens, the Mounties, are enveloped in the idea of being as tall as possible, by stretching their backs and standing on gym equipment.

History

Long Sauvage's obsession with height originated with his attempts to win over women. After being rejected by Ferne at a bar, he believed that women weren't interested in him because he was too short. He kidnapped her with the promise to release and marry her once he was tall enough for her standards, when in reality Ferne did not like him due to his rudeness. It is unclear whether the Mountie gathering in the land was started by Sauvage, or whether it already existed and he simply joined the group and became the leader. In any case, Long Sauvage became the ruler of the Tiptoe Kingdom by sitting at the very summit of the mountain, granting him the most power. He stayed unmoved from this position for so long that his beard grew down the sides of the mountain, all the way to the bottom.

Sauvage, clearly insecure, taunted King Corobo with a letter that mocked the young king's short stature, and how small the Kingdom of Alpoko looked from the top of the mountain. Corobo climbed all the way up the mountain, despite the mounties and Sauvage himself trying to prevent it as much as possible. Corobo used his citizens from Alpoko as a human tower to become taller than Sauvage, causing the king to become upset and go crazy. Sauvage spent the rest of his life running around the mountain on his hands. Corobo freed and married Ferne, but later returned to the Tiptoe Kingdom to collect some of Sauvage's beard for Skinny Ray's Flying Machine, and to retrieve a Kingstone Jewel of Ferne's that she had unsuccessfully tried to hide from Sauvage by throwing it over the side of the mountain.

Geography

The marred fields around the base of the mountain

"To those who want to hike on Sobamanjaro. You will see the foot of the mountain east of here. Be wary of who you take with you. Taking carefree ones is fine, but don't forget carpenters and hunters."
Skull Plains Tourism Agency

The Tiptoe Kingdom's main landmark is Mount Sobamanjaro, a mountain taller than any other in The World. Since Long Sauvage sits at its summit, he is its king, as his status as the tallest citizen grants him the most worth. His boss fight takes the form of a trek up Sobamanjaro.

At the foot of the mountain is the Sobamanjaro Hiker Registration, a dusty area populated by Mounties, who use various equipment to either stand taller or stretch themselves out. Even the signs are several feet taller than regular signs. In an almost cult-like fashion, the Mounties unanimously spout that to be great is to be tall, and similar ideas. Nearby is a Hot Spring and a billboard featuring a picture of a hiker pointing at Sobamanjaro.

The outskirts of Sobamanjaro are comprised of a long, dark field that curves around the base of the mountain, following the coast. Atop a small hill near to the path leading to Hiker Registration is a Jump Cannon. The grass is messy and features several mysterious scratches etched into the ground that glow with a faint golden light. Several Worker Onii carry dragon tails and cows through this area. In the very west of this field is the entrance to the Tiptoe Kingdom via the Skull Plains Balls region of the Skull Plains, not far from the path leading to the mountain. Following along the coast of this field is an Art piece in a hole guarded by an Yvonne. Further east is a peninsula with a bridge that accesses the New Island; a sign is situated nearby warning people who approach the Island to stay away. Continuing further along past this peninsula leads to the Hidden Hot Spring area, which contains a Wonder Spot, an Art piece, and a fiery hole which can only be put out by a Mountie.

Sobamanjaro summit

After defeating Long Sauvage, Sobamanjaro turns into a observatory where the upside down Long Sauvage can be found running up and down the mountain. The Mountain becomes a regular explorable area with collectibles for Corobo to go back for, most of which require the Mountie to obtain. An Art piece lies near the Manjaro Cavern.

If the Shadow Forest has been conquered and therefore Magical Land has been obtained, a bridge is able to be constructed to connect this kingdom to the Alpoko Kingdom. Furthermore, the Near New Island area becomes accessible if Corobo has also gained the Craftian, as its entrance lies between the Magical Land gate and the bridge.

After accepting the God Mountain quest, the billboard outside the dusty area is mysteriously knocked over, allowing access to a mushroom-infested area behind it containing a Flying Machine part and three Art pieces.

Culture

The Tiptoe Kingdom's culture is a proud and boastful one, where height is seen as an indicator of status and worth. The inhabitants of the kingdom, mostly Mounties, attempt to make themselves taller through whatever means necessary. Some stand atop chairs and gym horses, while others hang from pull up bars to stretch themselves out. Products to improve growth are frequently advertised and traded amongst the people. Most of the population is enlisted into the national army, sometimes referred to as the Soldiers of Sobamanjaro or Sauvage Soldiers, with the Beard General rank having more power than regular members. The mountain, Sobamanjaro, is heavily respected in Tiptoe culture, and has five tenets of a healthy Mountie life dedicated to its name. Several inhabitants stand on parts of Mount Sobamanjaro in order to be taller, with the tallest person at the summit assuming the position of king.

Music

The music that plays around Sobamanjaro is a flamenco-style remix of the third movement from Mahler's Symphony No. 1 "Titan", transforming some supporting melodies into percussion segments, and adding an improvised acoustic solo to its second loop.

The music that plays in the outskirts of the Tiptoe Kingdom is shared with Dark Valley and Skull Plains, a mysterious piece whose classical origin remains a mystery.

Etymology

Due to the emphasis on height in the Kingdom, its name comes from the action of standing on tip-toe to seem taller, as expressed by Long Sauvage during his introduction.
