Etymology
Meloncholie is a portmanteau of the words "melon" and "melancholy", meaning feeling sorrowful or depressed. The alternative spelling of "-choly" as "-cholie" seems to be purely stylistic, although it more closely resembles the French counterpart of the word, mélancholie.

Italian | Melone | Melon |

While the name is the same in French, the pun still works, as the French words for "melon" and "melancholy" are melon and mélancholie respectively.
The Spanish version is based on the word melancolía, although why the "n" is omitted is unclear.
